Gas emergencies are rare, but when they happen they need to be taken seriously and handled by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Whether it's a suspected leak, an appliance that's been condemned, or a carbon monoxide alarm going off, the priority is always safety first.
We provide 24/7 emergency gas response across Essex, London, Kent and Suffolk. Below are the immediate steps to take — please follow them first — and then call us to make the situation safe and carry out the repair.

If you smell gas — do this first
Before anything else, follow these steps:
- Don't turn any electrical switches on or off, and avoid naked flames
- Open doors and windows to ventilate
- Turn off the gas at the meter control valve if you can safely reach it
- Leave the property and keep everyone (and pets) outside
- Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999
- Then call us on 07530 994829 to make the repair once it's safe
For a suspected gas leak, always call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 first. They make the area safe; we carry out the repair afterwards.
Carbon monoxide — the silent danger
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas produced by faulty appliances, and it can be deadly. If your CO alarm sounds, or anyone feels dizzy, sick or unusually tired with headaches that ease when you leave the house, get everyone out, ventilate, and seek fresh air and medical advice.
Turn off the suspect appliance, don't use it again until it's been checked, and call us to inspect and make it safe. We can also advise on and fit audible CO alarms for peace of mind.
Unsafe or condemned appliances
If an appliance has been condemned or flagged as unsafe — perhaps during a service or safety check — don't use it. Our engineers can assess the fault, explain your options, and repair or replace the appliance safely. For planned gas work, see our gas engineers page.
